Farr Calls for Iraq Redeployment

WASHINGTON, D.C., November 14, 2007 - The House of Representatives was scheduled to vote Wednesday night for the redeployment of U.S. troops from Iraq.

The "Orderly and Responsible Iraq Redeployment Appropriations Act" would force redeployment to begin within 30 days of enactment, with December 15, 2008, set as the target for completion. The bill would provide $50 billion to begin the withdrawal.

Rep. Sam Farr (D-Carmel) prepared the following statement to deliver on the House floor Wednesday evening:

"I have never voted to fund this war and I am not about to start funding this war tonight. The only funding I support is money to bring home the troops.

"On March 20, 2003, the United States invaded Iraq. It was a mistake then. And everyday we fail to correct this mistake costs us in cash, credibility and lives. Everyday we are not working to get out of Iraq we make our nation weaker and less safe. Everyday we do not get our troops out of Iraq is a mistake.

"This bill will bring an end to the war. It will end a long and tragic string of mistakes. It will begin the process of bringing our troops home now. Passing this bill tonight makes clear that the U.S. House of Representatives has acted to bring our troops home, to end this war and to put our country back on track.

"I support this bill. We must end this war."
