56th Inaugural Ceremonies
01/20/2009 - 08:00
01/20/2009 - 22:00
Etc/GMT-8

Tickets to the inauguration are available through House and Senate offices and are free of charge. Unfortunately, my office has already received over 1000 requests for tickets but will only have 198 available for the swearing-in ceremony, so we can no longer accept requests. Senators Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer have a separate allotment of tickets, so you may try their offices.

One opportunity open to the public is the inaugural parade. Each year, the new President travels from the Capitol to the White House down Pennsylvaniea Avenue. This is one opportunity to see the President on inauguration day, but make sure you arrive on the parade route early.

There are also a variety of parties, concerts, galas and more than a dozen balls around the city. Tickets to these events may be purchased from the Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC). The PIC has not been set up yet, but when it is, people can go on the official congressional inaugural site at www.inaugural.senate.gov and sign up for updates or go to www.change.gov and sign up there for updates.
